Appealing and reducing the Rateable Value applicable to a commercial property is only one of a number of options that can be potentially pursued to reduce an occupier’s liability to pay rates.
Acting on behalf of a major industrial manufacturer in Telford, Bulleys negotiated and agreed "Section 44a Void Rate Relief” in respect of vacant areas within this large automobile manufacturing facility.
Section 44a Void Rate Relief is a discretionary relief available from Local Authorities and in this particular instance, our client had a redundant press machine line within the factory area.
Bulleys entered into negotiations with the Local Authority and the Valuation Office to have the affected area omitted from the rating assessment whilst the large press machines were slowly dismantled and removed from the factory.
Undertaking this action to protect our client’s interest resulted in a financial saving in excess of £70,000.
